Helping Athletes Comply With Daily Health Checks

Empty Sport Field Stands

Our hearts go out to the thousands of high school and college seniors who missed out on their final year of sports. Three years of hard work and anticipation was suddenly taken from them. It is a year they can
never get back and it is not fair. We owe it to them and to the future high school and college seniors to make sure this never happens again!

After 3-4 months of quarantining, sports are back but not back to normal. We still face the every day threat of spreading COVID-19. If one athlete gets sick, the rest of the program including coaches and staff are at risk and may have to shut down for a couple of weeks. Coaches and staff must take every
simple precaution to ensure their athletes get to play sports and enjoy themselves in a time like this.

Luckily for us at Slate Pages, we are in a position to help coaches and staff keep their athletes safe and healthy. Many states are requiring daily athlete health screenings prior to participating at practice or competition. Our slate pages app gives coaches the opportunity to efficiently implement health
screenings prior to each practice or competition by having their athletes scan our slate and record any symptoms they may have.

CT Sport Guidelines for Health Screening reads as follows: “All staff and students are required to selfscreen for any observable illness, including cough or respiratory distress, and to confirm temperature below 100 degrees Fahrenheit. (Rules for Operating Summer Schools during COVID-19, 2020) The coach or activity supervisor must verify that each participant has self-screened upon arrival. The screening form in Appendix I is a sample checklist that may be used by coaches/activity supervisors to maintain a
record of participants’ self-screening for potential symptoms.”

Vincent Camera, a football coach from Platt Tech High School in Milford Connecticut, has been using a slate and the Slate Pages app to monitor the health of his athletes before each summer practice. He had
this to say, “I contacted Slate Pages and worked with their support group to match the CIAC athletic monitoring form. Our App and health check program was up and running within the hour. Slate Pages support is using our template for all CT CIAC programs so their health check app is ready to go when the order is placed.”
